Hilarious take! 57yo queer male here, I'm what was once considered an "old man" but I'm Gen X and we don't get old. (Probably the result of some Red Dye No. 5 chemical we ingested while smoking candy cigarettes that stunted the emotional maturity growth centers in our brains). We also make sweeping declarative statements about ourselves that make no sense and are generally annoying. My take differs from yours. I find Taylor Swift's music quite enjoyable, her lyrics poignant & sophisticated, especially for pop (I've only really followed her since 1989). Her music so seems to be right on the edge of what's currently happening. Rodrigo I can't really tap into (with the exception of Vampire, which I love) because her songs, though intense and admirable in their own right, seem to be aimed at kids who don't know any better and consider her "punk" because she's noisy & utilizes electric guitars. I felt the same way about Avril Lavigne. Every era has its avatars, but middle-aged men into Olivia Rodrigo? What could they possibly have in common? Unless that's where they're at in emotional maturity...which would explain so much.
