my new book “minis.” is about to be unleashed!

I create & keep binders for books I haven’t written yet. The binders help ideas turn into concepts & act not only as repositories to collect random moments of inspiration & plot elements & character information nuggets over time, but also as a physical manifestation of each idea as it evolves and eventually, I hope, becomes an actual book.
“minis.” is my second book. As an author, I’m still a toddler. As a toddler, I’m ancient. The landscape has changed significantly since I finished the manuscript of my first novel in the 1990s. Back then, it was an edgy, contemporary examination of life as a thirtysomething navigating queer spaces in L.A. I was expressing the angst I had about coming of age in the shadow of AIDS, gay male hook up & circuit party culture, childhood sexual abuse and familial violence. Between the time I finished the manuscript and the year I actually published it (2017), the novel went through many iterations. What it eventually became was a period piece.
Once “minis.” is launched I hope to come back and do some deep dives into the process that brought it all together as a collection, my marketing strategy from concept to execution, and the emotional journey I’ve gone on in order to complete the project and make it the most authentic and meaningful version of itself that it can be.
